One of the best ways for an owner operator driver to stay current on pop culture and maintain an active mind is to start a few summer reading lists. You can buy books in physical form or download e-books for your e-reader. The local library is a great source for books and e-books that can be borrowed at no cost. Audio books are also very beneficial for truck drivers to enjoy while on the road.
Here are the books we at Greatwide Logistics suggest drivers include on their summer reading lists:
The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
Whether you’ve seen the new movie or not, this series belongs on everyone’s summer reading lists. The story is told from the perspective of Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old girl living in a future post-apocalyptic America, now called Panem. Every year, children ages 12-18 are entered into the Hunger Games, an annual event that pits teen against teen in a fight to the death! The trilogy is rounded out by Catching Fire and Mockingjay.
Steve Jobs Biography by Walter Isaacson
Jobs, who passed away on October 5, 2011, was the CEO of Apple, Inc. The book is based on more than 40 interviews conducted over 2 years of Jobs’ life, in addition to hundreds of interviews with his friends, family members, colleagues, and even adversaries and competitors. If you own or have ever owned an Apple product, you should include this biography on your summer reading lists.
A Game of Thrones Series by George R. R. Martin
A Game of Thrones is actually the first book in a fantasy series called A Song of Ice and Fire. The novel is presented from a number of points of view and plots. While originally published in 1996, the series has gained popularity recently because of the television series on HBO based on the books.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Series by Douglas Adams
This science-fiction comedy is filled to the brim with British humor. It follows Arthur Dent and other characters that must leave their earthly home because the planet is scheduled for demolition to make way for an intergalactic superhighway.
Calico Joe by John Grisham
This is a moving novel about fathers and sons, mercy and deliverance, set in 1973 and revolving around the world of Major League Baseball. The main character, Joe Castle from Calico Rock, Arkansas dazzles Cub fans as he proves to be the greatest rookie anyone has ever seen.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Series by Stieg Larsson
This crime novel is the first book in the Millennium Series. A real-life experience Larsson had at age 15 of not helping a rape victim is manifested in the main character of this stunning novel.
